Building habitats for animals that hibernate

In Science this half term, we are learning about variation. We have already discussed how we change what we wear and sometimes what we eat to keep warm in the winter. Yesterday, we read a story about animals that hibernate. We learnt that hibernation is when animals go for a long sleep because they are not prepared for the winter season. We learnt that their temperature goes down and they barely breathe!

Here are some fabulous pictures of the hibernation homes for either a hedgehog, a toad, dormice, a queen bee or a bat.

Aksel found out that a Queen Bee hibernates in a 10cm deep hole. Here he is measuring the hole!
